* * * Newsflash! * * * _________________________
Congratulations to my fabulously talented IP (indispensable peer) Sharon Lynn Fisher for her Golden Heart final!
The Golden Heart is the granddaddy (or maybe the magical fairy godmother) of all contests for unpublished authors, and Sharon has just done the next-to-impossible by making the final round for the second year in a row!
I'm a Skiffy Rommer (Science Fiction Romance fanatic), three-time RWA Golden Heart finalist and the founder of the SFR Brigade community of authors, writers and fans. I write Science Fiction Romance (near future, space adventure, planetary, alternative history, etc.), all with a healthy dose of romance. I am represented by Amanda Luedeke of MacGregor Literary.
Every writer has to have a support group, whether it's friends, family or a critique group. Mine is my four IPs--Barbara Elsborg, Dawn Jackson, Arlene Webb (also my co-bloggers on Take it to the Stars blog) and Sharon Lynn Fisher.
Barbara Elsborg hails from England and is a true talent at penning hilarious situations and steamy love scenes in her Contemporary Romance, Fantasy Romance and Erotica novels. I've never finished one of her WIPs without feeling like her MC was a close personal friend. Barbara's first novel, PERFECT TIMING, was published in April 2008 by Ellora's Cave. That was soon followed by THE CONSOLATION PRIZEwith LooseId. Next came SOMETHING ABOUT POLLY, another by Ellora's Cave centering on Jake's brother Adrian from PERFECT TIMING. She has since sold many additional novels, including LUCY IN THE SKY, a wonderful Science Fiction Romance and my personal favorite, STRANGERS, which has garnered many 5-star reviews and ranked #4 on the Preditors & Editors (TM) Readers' Choice Poll for the best erotica e-books of 2009! Yea! Some day I'll be able to say, "I knew her when..."
Dawn Jackson lives in New England and is a fellow Sci-Fi Rom writer and short story author. She draws on her military and martial arts experience to make her action scenes crackle and her characters authentic. Her many WIPs feature a fascinating universe that interconnects through time and space. You never know when an old friend may pop up in one of her stories...or an old nemesis. Dawn has short stories published by Ravenous Romance as part of an anthology on Sex and Shoes and Men in Shorts, and her debut futuristic romance novel SLIPPING THE PAST now available from Liquid Silver Publishing. Her next novel, LAST FLIGHT OF THE ARK, is due out soon!
Arlene Webb is from Northeastern USA and writes Science Fiction with a dose of Romance. Her imaginative work is stamped with her very distinct voice as she unravels complex tales filled with unforgettable characters. Her series has a basis in physics. Arlene has just published a story entitled UNDER THE MISTLETOE in the NEW YEARS NAUGHTIES anthology, following a three-story anthology of unique love stories entitled LOVE GROWS WILD IN THE DARK
Sharon Lynn Fisher and I became aquainted after her SFR novel GHOST PLANET was announced as a finalist for the granddaddy of all contests, the 2009 RWA Golden Heart Award (paranormal romance category). I was so excited to see a SFR make the list, I contacted Sharon to request an interview for my blog, Spacefreighters Lounge, which she graciously agreed to do, and I became an instant fan of her fabulous novel. We later met in person at the 2009 RWA in Washington DC where we had a wonderful time as two wide-eyed first timers with a love of the SFR subgenre in common. We now work online as Beta-readers, sounding board partners and general cheerleaders. *\O/*
Donna S. Frelick and I also met at the 2009 RWA Nationals when I noticed her gorgeous, self-designed tote featuring a galaxy, and asked if she wrote SFR. Yes, she does! Donna soon joined me as a co-blogger on Spacefreighters Lounge where she writes fabulous articles about SFR-related topics. She also made quite a name for herself in fanfic years ago. [But we understand those pursuing commercial fiction publication are not supposed to mention that, so... *puts on dark sunglasses* Look at the light, please. *Flash!* You didn't hear that and you no longer remember anything I just said. Thank you, and have a good day. ]
To top off all that talent, my IPs are also five of the finest critiquers and best writing buddies I've ever encountered.
In addition to my three IPs, my co-bloggers from The Toaster Scimitar are an amazing group of F/SF writers (emphasis on Fantasy) with whom I've had engrossing discussions and learned much about the writing industry.
Merc, (Abby Rustad) published author of short stories and critiquer extraordinaire.
Ardyth, (Ardyth DeBruyn) published author of YA Fantasy novel CHOSEN SISTER and short stories, better known as "The Dreaded One."
SkipperZ writes character-driven Fantasy and has extensive knowledge of the techno-world.
Spartezda always has informative feedback on a variety of topics (her commentary on genetics in SF/F never fails to fascinate me).
